11.16.08 Set List

This blog post is part of the Sunday Set list discussion which can be found here.

This Sunday I was back on the Keys after a few weeks of being on the Guitar. It took a song or two to get used to it. Playing from the Guitar and playing from the Keyboard are two totally different monsters. On the keys you are more tied down to that spot. On the guitar I feel a little more free to move around as my instrument moves with me. If you lead from the keys you know what I’m talking about when I say you get used to the position you stand in relation to the keyboard. There is a feel that you develop as to where you are playing on the board in relation to where you are standing. Make sense

Here is our set.

  • I Am Free [Egan, Jon] – Haven’t done this one in a few months. A great starter. I think the orig. tempo is 136 but we actually bumped it up to around 146, a little fast but it felt nice.
  • Sing, Sing, Sing [Tomlin, Chris | Reeves, Jesse | Gilder, Matt | Carson, Daniel | Nunn, Travis] – We went straight into this one from I Am Free. Nice transition. As there are two recordings, that I know of, out there for this song, we did a combo of the two arrangements. We used the intro with the guitar arpeggio from the live version and then stuck to the arrangement from the studio version there after. Nice easy song for the vocals.
  • Your Love Never Fails [Chris Quilala] – A good mid-temp song to transition with. I love the driving distorted guitar feel of this song and the lyrics are awesome.
  • How Great Is Our God [Tomlin, Chris \ Cash, Ed \ Reeves, Jesse] – Did a simple intro to this song. Keys played through verse 1 melody with an elec. guitar playing some nice eboish sounds. We built this song up into the next song.
  • You Are Here (The Same Power) [Pankratz, Grant | George, Dave] – From the previous song, we dropped the drums and then held the simple progression out and then built the song up. (the same arrangement as the recent Hillsong Live album

It was good week. The first service usually takes while to warm up the band but didn’t this week. It may have something to do with moving our call time up an extra 15 minutes. Good Weekend.
